At-Home LED Therapy Explained: Dr Alice Martin Shines a Light on CurrentBody’s Breakthrough Series 2 Mask

During Berlin Fashion Week, we brought together leading press and creators for an exclusive CurrentBody event exploring the future of at-home beauty tech.

Hosted by CEO Laurence Newman and skin expert Dr. Alice Martin, the panel unpacked the clinical science behind our Series 2 LED Mask and the Veritace® quality process. Dr Martin, an internationally recognised voice in skin health and digital dermatology, broke down how LED light works and explained why precision, placement and production make all the difference.

Red light therapy is known for its advanced anti-ageing abilities and overall skin rejuvenation. This high-tech treatment uses red light wavelengths to energise cells, boosting collagen and elastin production to revitalise texture and tone for a glowing, youthful-looking complexion.

Whether you’re an LED novice wondering which device to invest in, or an experienced user looking to upgrade your current set-up, CurrentBody’s Series 2 LED Mask is the beauty must-have.

Don’t just take our word for it, internationally recognised medical doctor and skin health expert, Dr Alice Martin, recently discussed the benefits of the beauty tech tool during an expert panel discussion, explaining why this skincare saviour really stands out. Here’s what she had to say.

What sets the Series 2 Mask apart from the rest?

The advanced features and clinical-grade performance of the CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2 bring professional results into the hands of home users.

Dr. Martin explains:

“The multi-layered light delivery of the Series 2 mask allows therapeutic wavelengths to reach different depths of the skin. This means it’s not just addressing surface inflammation, it’s also stimulating collagen production and deep tissue regeneration.”

Unlike typical at-home LED masks, which often use a single wavelength, the Series 2 combines red and near-infrared light, delivering them with even intensity across the entire face, including a new extension under the chin. “That area is often overlooked,” noted Dr Martin, “but it’s critical for improving firmness and facial contour.”

Dr Martin also highlighted the improved wearability of the new mask. “It’s more flexible and comfortable, especially around the back of the head,” she said. “That makes it easier to stick with, which is essential for real, long-term skin improvement.”

How does it compare to professional treatments?

When asked how the Series 2 Mask compares to in-clinic LED treatments, Dr Martin emphasised the cumulative benefit of frequent home use.

“While clinic devices can deliver higher intensity in a single session, the Series 2 offers a strong 30 mW/cm², which is well above average for home devices. And when used consistently, ideally 3 to 5 times per week, the total energy delivered can match or even surpass what you'd receive in a clinic over time.”

How long does red light therapy take to work?

Consistency, Dr Martin explained, is the cornerstone of effective LED therapy. “Five times per week is ideal,” she said. “Most people start to see a visible glow or reduced redness within 2 to 4 weeks. Improvements in firmness, tone and fine lines usually appear over 6 to 12 weeks.”

For those preparing for major events like weddings or summer gatherings, she advises starting the Series 2 at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance. “Pair it with gentle skincare and daily SPF for the best results,” she added.

Dr Martin pointed to acne, rosacea-prone skin, and early signs of ageing as concerns that respond most dramatically to LED therapy.

“Red and near-infrared light reduce inflammation and promote healing - many users report brighter, calmer skin within weeks.”

How to use the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask: Series 2

Rest assured, this high-tech device is easy to use and can be integrated into most skincare routines. “Use it on clean, dry skin before applying actives like retinol or AHAs,” Dr Martin recommended. “You can use actives later in the evening or on alternate days to avoid irritation.”

Despite common online myths, Dr Martin affirmed that LED masks are safe to use in summer, even after sun exposure.

“The red and near-infrared light in the Series 2 is part of the natural light spectrum but without any UV or heat. It’s completely safe, and can actually help soothe UV-induced irritation.”

Trustworthy technology, reliable results

What ultimately sets CurrentBody apart, according to Dr Martin, is the thoughtful design and science-backed development of their devices. “You can tell this is a product made with clinical input and attention to detail,” she said. “It’s not just about appearance, it’s about results. And the comfort means people actually use it consistently, which is where the real transformation happens.”

If that wasn’t enough, Veritace®, CurrentBody’s unique end-to-end production and testing system, guarantees quality treatments you can trust. So, what are you waiting for? Try it, the results speak for themselves.
