With winter showing no signs of letting up, some of you may start to notice some symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder, or its less severe cousin Subsyndromal SAD. If you’ve ever found your mood dipping during the darker months, you may be suffering from SAD – but the good news is you can treat it. How to Beat Seasonal Affective Disorder
The problem with SAD is that once you’re feeling the typical symptoms (fatigue, oversleeping, and carb craving) you won’t feel like any of the treatments (getting some exercise, or heading outdoors). So one of the best ways to treat SAD is to bump up your exposure to ‘good’ light with a SAD lamp.
SAD lamps replicate the sun, and allow you to get a shot of mood-boosting vitamin D from the comfort of your own home – even when there’s 99% cloud coverage and a storm blowing outside!
Another option is a dawn simulator alarm clock, which will wake you every morning with a gradually increasing light and the sound of birdsong. When sunlight is scare, waking up when it’s still dark can wreak havoc with your natural biorhythms, so replicating dawn is the best way to ensure you get out of bed on the right side.
