HOW DOES IT WORK?
When you exercise, the brain sends the order in the form of electrical currents that travel at high speed along the nerve fibers. These electrical currents excite the motor nerve, which then passes the information to the immediate surroundings of the muscle, triggering a muscle contraction.

With electrostimulation, the excitation is directly produced at the motor nerve, rather than by the brain. Compex Muscle Stimulator produces powerful muscle contractions through "optimal", safe and comfortable electrical impulses delivered at the motor nerves.

WHO SHOULD USE IT?
Compex Sport is designed for serious athletes and general fitness enthusiasts who wish to enhance their competitive performance and gain a true competitive advantage!

TRAINING PROGRAMS

Complete Training Programs Designed For All Athletes & Their Particular Sports! A sprinter versus a marathon runner, a football player versus a basketball player, a cross country skier versus an alpine skier; all require widely different physical preparation to achieve peak performance. Strength, speed, explosive power, resistance, endurance…with Compex Sport, you can tailor your training program to suit your personal needs. If you currently employ a variety of training methods, you can combine the following four training programs to enhance your athletic performance:

* Endurance
* Resistance
* Strength
* Explosive Strength

Each of these four training programs offers five different levels of work that can be gradually increased.

ENDURANCE Program (Levels 1-5)

Who Can Benefit? Athletes competing in endurance events will see results with this program! It develops the oxidative power of the slow muscle fibers (i.e. their capacity to take oxygen).

Sport Usage: Marathon, Swimming >400 m, Running, Triathlon, Rowing, Cross Country Skiing, Cycling, Skating, Soccer, Walking

Its Special Feature? This is a long program of medium intensity. It increases the capillarization of the muscles and establishes a working regimen for developing the oxidative power of the slow muscle fibers, to achieve greater V02 capacity and endurance.

Program Profile: The Endurance Program is a long program (45 minutes) that works slow muscle fibers (i.e. the endurance muscle fibers) required in endurance sports.

RESISTANCE Program (Levels 1-5)

Who Can Benefit? If you're an elite or amateur athlete, competing in a sport requiring intense effort (i.e. "power") for more than 10 seconds, you will benefit from this program. This program increases muscle size, strength and density in the higher modes/settings, and improves muscle tone and firmness in the lower modes/settings.

Sport Usage: Running: 400m, Running: 800m, Cycling, Body Building, Swimming >100m, Dance, Weight Lifting, Toning & Shaping, Mountain Biking

Its Special Feature? The Resistance Program makes the muscle work very intensively. This enables you to train the muscle at an intensity seldom achieved through ordinary training. The Resistance Program builds muscle size, strength and density.

Program Profile: The Resistance Program consists of long tetanic (fused or solid) contractions of the slow and fast twitch muscle fibers, alternating with short contractions in the "active rest" stages.

STRENGTH Program (Levels 1-5)

Who Can Benefit? Athletes competing in a sport where gains in power improve performance will benefit! It is used to complement exercises (or even replace them) for muscle development depending upon the athlete's needs.

Sport Usage: Weight Lifting, Down Hill Skiing, Windsurfing, Power Lifting, Rowing, Judo, Football, Wrestling, Golfing, Rugby

Its Special Feature? This program is designed to increase strength and work the muscles at maximum power, without physical or mental fatigue and without sudden osteotendinous strain. Unlike conventional power training, which requires heavy equipment, there is no risk of injury with Compex® Sport. The Strength Program can increase muscle strength and increase muscle density.

Program Profile: The Strength Program consists of fast tetanic contractions of the muscle fibers, alternating with long periods of "active rest" stages.

EXPLOSIVE STRENGTH Program (Levels 1-5)

Who Can Benefit? If you compete in a sport combining velocity and power (i.e. very high-speed combined with strength), this program is for you. The Explosive Strength Program increases the "explosive" nature of your muscles' power.

Sport Usage: Jumping, Throwing, Baseball, Diving, Sprinting, Gymnastics, Football, Basketball, Boxing, Golfing, Tennis, Volleyball, Hockey, Soccer, Cycling

Its Special Feature? This program imposes activity on the muscle fibers that would otherwise require violent and sometimes traumatizing training efforts. It involves very intense training with explosive contractions for athletic needs such as jumping or sprinting from a stand still, or other related "explosive" muscle movements like throwing, spiking and hitting.

Program Profile: The Explosive Strength Program consists of very short contractions at a very high pulse frequency with maximum contraction of the fast and the very fast muscle fibers.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

The Compex Sport Also Offers Two Special Programs; Potentiation & Active Recovery:

Potentiation:

Who Can Benefit? This program is designed to help all athletes to "warm-up," by bringing about the physiological phenomenon of "twitch potentiation." A muscle with potentiated fibers releases greater velocity and reaches its maximum strength more easily and rapidly.

Its Special Feature? This program causes the muscles to "twitch," which means they are "warmed up." This enables you to play at peak performance right away versus slowly warming up as you enter a game or begin a sports activity.

Program Profile: In the Potentiation Program, short fast pulses cause the muscles to "twitch" at a constant rate for a long duration.

Active Recovery:

Who Can Benefit? This program is for all athletes. Compex's Active Recovery Program is designed to speed your muscle recovery after an intense training session or competition.

Its Special Feature? This program increases blood flow into the muscles, which helps remove lactic acid, thus enabling a faster recovery of muscle capacity. The result is increased relaxation of the muscles, thereby minimizing next-day muscle soreness and stiffness. This is what increases the speed of your recovery.

Program Profile: In the Active Recovery Program, the muscles do not contract; they undergo a series of twitches like a massage. The frequency of the twitches gradually decreases over the 24-minute session.

Customer Questions & Answers

How easily can I apply the pads...are they fiddly and do they stick on well? How long do they last?

25th Jul, 2009 by Michael from Dorset

The pads are large, easy to use and have a good life if well looked after. They will last around 50 treatments before they lose adhesiveness. CurrentBody.com offer help if you have any other issues either on the phone, by email or in person at our medical centre.

Can i get the pads applied to my legs on the correct muscle groups to benefit my cycling?

26th Jul, 2009 by Michael from Dorset

The most important benefit of the Compex Mi Sport is that you can apply it to the correct parts of the muscle due to the MI (Muscle Intelligence) sensor. This allows you to find exactly the correct pad placement - something no other stimulator does

Which one should I get? Compex Mi Sport or Mi Fitness?

Please can you tell me the differences between the Fitness and Sport models? Not sure which one to get. I cycle, but not on a tremendous scale. I prefer an overall fitness level with the ability to build muscle/tone/firm. Also, I want either one that can relieve pain in the upper neck and back areas. So far, I am leaning towards the Compex Mi-Fitness, but am not sure if the Mi-Sport offers ALL of the Mi-fitness functions Plus more??

by Kevin from USA

Hi Kevin, We would recommend the Mi-Fitness. For sports specific fitness, toning, endurance and muscle strength the Mi-Fitness is most relevant. It is also the more suitable for someone looking at an overall fitness regime (hence the name) It will also help with pain relief that you mention. The Mi-Sport is mainly aimed at elite sportsmen and women so the Fitness will provide you with all your requirements and it's slightly cheaper. Please let me know if you have any more questions, Thanks Scott

I do triathlons and I would like to improve my training with Compex. Which one should I buy out of the Compex Energy, Performance and Mi Sport? What is the difference between them?

14th Aug, 2009 by Marcos from Brazil

Basic programs for complementary training with EMS and active recovery are available with the all 3 devices: Compex Energy, Compex Performance and Compex MI Sport.

The Compex Energy has no appropriate programs for treatment of injuries (except very basic TENS), the Compex Performance and Compex MI Sport are much more adapted for training, recovery and injuries.

The Compex MI Sport has the widest program choice, and has the option of working with the MI Action mode. This offers the possibility to combine EMS and voluntary work-out, with a more functional training and greater efficacy for well trained athletes.

Can you tell me the differences between the Runner, Fitness and Sport models

Hi, Can you tell me the differences between the Runner, Fitness and Sport models. I am making the transition from running 10K and Half Marathons to full Marathons at club level. I would like boost my endurance, core stability (I have slight imbalance in my running) and speed my recovery. Ideally I would like the device aid recovery after Alpine and Tour skiing. At my level am I going to benefit from the additional features in the sport and fitness models? Many thanks

by Matthew Rice from Milton Keynes

I would recommend the Compex Mi Sport over the Fitness and the Runner for you for the following reasons: Given what you're doing, you need something which can deal with the whole spectrum including: Building muscle strength, Building endurance, Recovery post run & Rehabilitation from niggly injuries. The Compex Mi Sport is the only one which has all of these programmes. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

im 8 wks post acl and double cartilage operation

I have complete muscle wastage after my double op in december and because i had a double cartilage tear repaired at the same time as my ACL, i have been prohibited from really pushing on with my exercises, will this machine help both injuries

by Keith Ridgard from waterford, ireland

The answer is yes…. if you want a stimulator that is less specific to knee rehab then any of the Compex range from the Performance upwards (i.e. Performance, Mi Fitness and Mi Sport) will offer more functionality. If you just want a device for quad wastage then kneehab is the one. If you want more advice then feel free to call our freephone number, or we can call you if you send a request through.
