What causes Acne?
Acne is a condition of the sebaceous hairfollicle. The hair follicles, or pores, in your skin contain sebaceous glands. These glands make sebum, which is an oil that lubricates hair and skin. Normally, sebum travels throughthe hair follicle to the skin surface. With acne, sebum is trapped, clogging the follicle. Bacteria that seems to cause most acnes is called Propionibacterium acnes (P.acnes) and is present in everybodys skin, usually lodged in the hair follicle. The clogged follicle becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. When the sebaceous gland gets clogged, and sebum builds up inside the follicle, P. acnes multiply rapidly resulting in acne.
