Halloween is big business. It’s no longer enough to wear a bin bag and pointy hat and say you’re a witch, or switch clothes with your best friend and say you’re dressed as each other – as we gear up for the spookiest celebration of the year, we look to these famous faces for some Halloween makeup inspiration.
Shanae Grimes was unrecognisable in her Frankie Stein costume last year – opting for a full green tinged-face and what we hope is a wig! Don’t be afraid to go heavy on the make up at this time of year, and no colour is off limits!
Next up, we’re digging the Sugar Skull trend, more commonly associated with the Mexican Day of the Dead. Sandra Bullock, Kate Moss and Miley Cyrus were all seen rocking this trend last year.
To achieve this look, you’re going to need a steady hand, or a friend with an artistic touch! After applying a base of pure white, go completely overboard with black eyeliner on your eyes, then fill in the eyes, lips and nose in black. Add some decorative features in red or green, and you’re good to go! Just make sure you wash all of this off before bed.
It wouldn’t be Halloween without a touch of gore, so why not opt for this Marie Antoinette-inspired costume, as seen on Alexa Chung and Annalynne McCord. It’s a great excuse to wear a fabulous dress, and play with fake blood, or amp up the fake eyelashes.
If you’re sticking to the Halloween classics, you can’t go wrong with a classic witch costume, just like Chloe Moretz. The key to this look is the intense black eyeliner, and the big hair. Don’t be afraid to let your style get a little messy.
For a sleek and sophisticated look, try Holly Willoughby’s butterfly look – complete with the craziest eyelash extensions we’ve ever seen, and a bold black lip.
And finally… if you’re willing to commit, consider painting your entire body blue, as Michelle Trachtenberg did for her take on Tim Burton’s blue girl.
