The latest must-have beauty product to land on our shores is the elusive BB cream, or Blemish Balm for those yet to be initiated into the BB tribe. They originally made it big in Asia and have now worked their way over to us, with every major cosmetics company bringing out their own version.
They seem to be a bit of a miracle product, with some claiming to do up to 9 essential tasks. It sounds too good to be true, right?
BB creams were originally designed to protect patient’s skin after surgery, but were picked up and endorsed by actresses in Korea after it was discovered they made skin appear pore-less and smooth. They’re now making a big splash in Europe and the US as more and more people are adopting them for everyday wear. The skincare and lightweight coverage seems to be a winning combination.
And they really can multi-task! You can use them as a foundation, a tinted moisturizer, a primer, a concealer and they even help heal blemishes on the skin too. Some also contain anti-ageing ingredients and SPF factors, so you know you’re protecting and healing your skin, not just covering up any damage.
Over the next few weeks I’m planning to try out a few (until I find the right one for me… all in the name of science!!) and will deliver the results right here on the CurrentBody.com blog.
To give you a bit of background, I have dry/ combination skin, I prefer a light coverage in the day, with heavier coverage in the evening. I touch my face constantly throughout the day, so it’s rare than my make-up will stay put, and blemishes are fairly common.
I tried out the Body Shop All-in-One BB Cream this weekend and was very impressed with the lightweight coverage, the colour-matching, the effortless blending and the staying power. The only this I wasn’t convinced on was the smell, which is strange because I’m normally nuts about every smell in the Body Shop.
The only other downside is that the Body Shop BB Cream doesn’t have an SPF, and since every other one on the market seems to have this, I think I’ll keep looking.
If you’re still curious, they put together this video which shows the BB Cream in action, although the model has such beautiful flawless skin already, so I’m not sure how much this really shows you!
Have you ever tried BB Creams before? Which is your favourite and why?
