5 Top Tips to Heal Winter Skin

That time of year is coming, when we crank up the heating and usher in a wave of skin care problems. The weather outside is getting chilly – add to that the drying effect of central heating, and the results can wreak havoc on our skin.

True, you’ll be wrapped up under layers and layers of clothing for the next 6 months, but that doesn’t mean you should neglect your skin! What if your other half surprises you with a winter sun holiday? You need to be prepared for this sort of thing!

Follow these 5 tips will help keep winter skin at bay!

1. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate.

When it’s chilly outside there’s nothing more inviting than a running a hot bath and having a good soak. This is also the best time to grab your loofah and get scrubbing. By scrubbing away the dead skin cells your skin will absorb moisturisers more effectively and keep horrible cracked winter skin at bay. Try adding a bath milk to the tub for an extra moisturising treat.

2. Moisturise

In summer you might only need a light moisturising milk once a day, but in winter you should look for something a little more oily to help form a protective layer over your skin. If you suffer from dry or cracked skin in winter, try an emollient cream like e45 to give your skin a helping hand. Dove also make a range of body oils that will be a welcome treat for your winter skin.

3. Keep Active

I know getting up and going from a run at 6am might not be your favourite way to start the day – especially when it’s cold outside – but keeping active during those winter months is a great way to keep your skin glowing. Just make sure you’re extra careful about running at night! If running isn’t your thing, why not grab a skinny latte and talk a long walk in the park with your other half or your best friend.

4. Wrap Up Warm

Listen to your Grandma when she tells you need a hat, scarf AND gloves. This is just another excuse to go shopping – and who doesn’t love layering? But seriously, you need to protect your skin from the elements.

5. Pamper Yourself

“Oh no, my skin is looking a little dry, I should stay in tonight and put on a face mask.” Just don’t make the mistake I made and use Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty in winter – brrrr!
